About Christian von Grumbkow
Christian von Grumbkow (born 1946) is one of the most important German representatives of contemporary painting. In the 1970s, he enjoyed international success as co-founder and guitarist of the art rock band Hoelderlin. A master student of Prof. Rudolf Schoofs and former student at the Rietveld Academie Amsterdam, he also taught worldwide, including in the USA, Canada, Great Britain, and Austria.
Over 300 exhibitions and regular appearances at trade fairs such as Art Cologne and Art Karlsruhe underscore his enduring relevance. In 2009, he received the Culture Prize from the Christa & Enno Springmann Foundation, and in 2023, he received the Environment Award for his project "Der Wald & der Sturm" (The Forest & the Storm).
Von Grumbkow lives and works in Wuppertal.
