About Dirk Pleyer
Dirk Pleyer (*1968) began his artistic training in 1995 at the University of Applied Sciences in Dortmund, where he studied graphic design and painting under Prof. M. Hesse. This was followed by scholarships and study visits to Linz, the Nuova Accademia di Belli Arti in Milan, and numerous recurring invitations to exhibitions throughout Germany and other European countries. He has been an active member of the Künstlerhaus Dortmund and the Verein der Düsseldorfer Künstler von 1844 (Association of Düsseldorf Artists of 1844) for many years.
Dirk Pleyer lives and works in Dortmund.
Style and technology
Dirk Pleyer's contemporary paintings are distinctive in their use of frames and canvas, as right angles are often dispensed with. A central theme is the depiction of imaginary places that evoke vague memories (similar to those of a possibly unreal) photo album. This often creates a wistful mood that is dramatically broken up by powerful colors. The use of generous layers of oil paint, dramatic colors in turquoise, brown, beige, and green, as well as hard, three-dimensional interventions in the picture surface create an explosive expression that has won numerous awards.
